    It's beautiful and there are other villages.too in East Khasi Hills that use this distinct form of recognition. It is the mythical mother "Iawbei" not Lawbei. And yes it's matrilineal society but the husband does not take the wife name, but the children take the surname of their mother...

    Correction : The husband does not take the wife's name. Both partners keep their own names. It's only the children who take the mother's name.
