I'll never forget the day I got a call from my son's school. He been suspended for fighting. Seems he punched the playground bully right in the face. When I picked him up, the principal told me what happened. All I said was good enough. She seemed shocked at my response. "That's not how we handle things here!" I told her my son's best friend had been being bullied all year and if she and the school had done THEIR JOB, my son wouldn't have had do what he did. I also informed her that, I'll bet that kid will learn to keep hands to himself now and his mouth shut from now on. I refused to punish my child for protecting his friend. The public school system fails these children every single day all across this country!! Their "no bullying" policies are a joke. Something needs to change for ALL of our children and grandchildren

Children say and do horrible things. I'm in NO WAY saying it is ok. Why not simply look this man in his face, get down from the dais, and apologize. Tell him how sorry you are, do something, anything you can to make it right. Reach out to him. Work with this man within your district to make changes to your anti bullying policies. But whatever you do, DO NOT BE A COWARD! Do not run away, using your family as the excuse to not take responsibility! Shame on you, sir!

He lied to protect his status when ironically apologizing would have elevated it...

Good for this man to confront his bully! My bully ended up being the principal of my old high school. The exact school where she tormented and harrassed me years before.

I can relate! Was teased relentlessly. Loathed roll call. Proud of my name now, though, and there’s nothing at all to be ashamed of — even if you do happen to be Gay or gay.

The bravery of the man who stood up and described his experiences was very impressive. It takes courage to admit you were picked upon. If you were to typecast someone has a bully that Superintendent fitted the bill.
