AOC criticized Republicans for trying to profit from the GOP spending bill. She called out a part of the bill that would allow eight Republican senators to sue for taxpayer-funded payouts as compensation for being investigated in connection with the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. The payouts could be worth millions of dollars and have been described as a “million-dollar jackpot.” The provision reportedly applies to Sens. Lindsey Graham, Bill Hagerty, Josh Hawley, Dan Sullivan, Tommy Tuberville, Ron Johnson, Cynthia Lummis, and Marsha Blackburn.
In her speech, AOC said, “How is this even on the floor? How can we, as members of Congress—Republican or Democrat—vote to enrich ourselves by stealing from the American people?”
