Being a white-passing POC in America...

"This white girl goes, 'Isn't it a shame to see our race mixing with another?'" White-passing Americans tell us their stories...

Ive experience so much racism in my life. Everyone thinks im white and im actually Puerto Rican and proud of it. On multiple occasions I would have someone ignorant apologize to me for thinking I was white. But they would say oh " sorry i didnt know you were half Puerto Rican" or "you dont act Puerto Rican". It became progressively worse when I married and took my white husband's last name. Needless to say I have educated many people and put many in their place.

Some times behaviour is just a reaction to experience does not always mean they are racist example white girl gets brutally gang raped her family now have hate against the race that committed the act. Is the family now racist. I know I'm going to get slammed for this comment but I just think it needs to be highlighted that some times people have no control over how they feel when it's just a reaction to an experience

I know it’s not going to be a popular thing to say but from my experience all groups will express disturbing racist thoughts and remarks not just “whites”. ALL GROUPS. And I’m sure everyone feels they have their reasons. Just wanted to point out this fact. When I was growing up no one could tell what exactly I was I guess I looked “exotic” cause that’s what was almost always said to me before being asked what i was. The answer always was/is I’m American, I’m not just 1 or 2 things. But I guess this made people feel comfortable being their true self in front of me, showing me all races can be racist and also showing me all races can be very open and not care about race. It’s all about the person not their race.

These testimonies aren’t surprising to me. But... it’s not just white folk being racist. Blacks and Hispanics also racist against Asians and islanders. Now keep in mind... I’ve heard many of my Filipino folk sounds racist as hell too. Every group has some racist people. We all should just love each other instead.

Where are the stories of how bad black people talk about white people. Because they are out there. A racist person can be any color.

People always ask if my daughter is mixed because she has red hair (her dad), freckles (me) & green eyes (my mom). An ex friend’s daughter saw her picture and said, “well there has to be some white there.” Our family is from Mexico. We have colonizer ancestry, too. I’m so glad she speaks Spanish. At least when she travels to Mexico, she isn’t treated like an anomaly.
