A disagreement over the spice level of a plate of noodles took an ugly turn at a Bengaluru eatery, leaving three workers injured in an alleged assault.

But how did a food complaint escalate into violence, and what exactly did the CCTV footage capture?

How Did A Noodles Dispute Turn Into An Assault?

The incident took place late on 29 October at a fast-food outlet in Doddathoguru, under Bengaluru's Electronic City police station limits.

According to the police, a group of men, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, complained that their noodles were too spicy. An argument followed with the three Assamese workers at the eatery.

The disagreement soon turned violent, with the accused allegedly knocking the workers down, punching and kicking them. A bystander who tried to intervene was also attacked, a senior police officer said.

The confrontation was captured on the eatery's CCTV cameras. Footage that later surfaced online reportedly shows the workers being assaulted, including while they were on the ground, and the bystander being targeted when he tried to stop the attack.

What Is The Police Action?

Following the incident, the victims approached the Electronic City Police.

According to reports, officers registered a Non-Cognisable Report (NCR), a record of an offence that generally requires a Magistrate's permission for police investigation, and began an inquiry to identify those involved.

The police subsequently traced and apprehended four men, identified as Ravi Kumar, 31, Puttaswamy, 35, Manohar, 31, and Siddaraj. All four are residents of Doddathoguru.

Police said the four men were served notices under relevant legal provisions and released pending further inquiry. Further legal proceedings are underway.

The Bigger Question Behind A Restaurant Dispute

The incident raises a larger question about the safety of people working in customer-facing jobs.

Restaurant workers regularly deal with complaints about food quality, preparation, service and pricing. Customers can raise concerns, ask for a replacement or seek a refund. But a disagreement over a meal cannot justify physical violence.

The alleged attack also involved workers who had travelled from Assam to earn a living in Bengaluru. The fact that they were working away from their home state adds another dimension to questions about the safety of migrant workers in urban workplaces.

The bystander who reportedly stepped in to help was allegedly assaulted too. This raises concerns about the risks faced by people who intervene when violence breaks out in public spaces.

For now, the police inquiry will determine what happened, establish the individual roles of those involved and decide the next legal steps.
