GTA 6 is scheduled to release on 19 November 2026, more than a decade after Grand Theft Auto V arrived in 2013. Rockstar Games has confirmed the release date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the game returning to the iconic Vice City setting.
The long wait for Grand Theft Auto VI even became an internet meme. “We got xyz before GTA 6” became a recurring joke as fans pointed to events and trends that appeared before Rockstar released the next game in the series.
Now that the GTA 6 release date is set, attention has shifted to the game itself. What will it cost in India? Which devices will support it? What new features will it have? And who are Jason and Lucia?

When Is GTA 6 Releasing?
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on 19 November 2026.
Rockstar initially announced the game for 2025. The company later moved the launch to 26 May 2026 and then delayed it again to 19 November 2026. Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company, confirmed the current date in November 2025.
The November 2026 date is the current official release date.
Rockstar has also confirmed that the game is now available for pre-order.
Which Consoles Can Play GTA 6?
At launch, GTA 6 will be available on:
PlayStation 5
Xbox Series X
Xbox Series S
Rockstar has not announced a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version. It has also not announced a PC release date.
That means PS4 and Xbox One owners cannot play GTA 6 at launch.
On PlayStation, the game is enhanced for PS5 Pro. Sony also says the game uses the PS5's fast SSD, 3D audio, haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
How Much Will GTA 6 Cost In India?
The Standard Edition is currently listed at Rs. 5,999 in India.
The Ultimate Edition costs Rs. 7,499.
Both editions are listed for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The Ultimate Edition includes additional vehicles, clothing, weapons, customisation options and other in-game content.
Pre-orders also include the Vintage Vice City Pack.
Digital pre-orders can start downloading the game from 12 November 2026, one week before launch. The physical version will also contain a download code rather than a game disc.
How Can You Get GTA 6?
Players in India can pre-order GTA 6 through the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Rockstar Games Store and selected retailers.
The game is officially listed on both the Indian PlayStation Store and Xbox Store.
Digital buyers can pre-load the game from 12 November.
Rockstar has also confirmed a physical version, but the box contains a download code instead of a disc.
Welcome Back To Vice City
The biggest change is the location.
GTA 6 returns to Vice City, the fictional version of Miami first introduced in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in 2002.
But this is not the same Vice City.
The new game is set across the wider fictional state of Leonida, with Vice City at its centre.
Rockstar has shown several different areas, including the Leonida Keys, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, Grassrivers and Mount Kalaga National Park.
The result is a world that extends beyond the city streets.
Players will move between urban areas, beaches, waterways and rural parts of Leonida.
Meet Jason And Lucia
For the first time in the main GTA series, Rockstar has built the story around a pair of central protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.
Jason grew up around criminals and later worked for drug runners in the Leonida Keys.
Lucia has recently been released from the Leonida Penitentiary. Rockstar says she wants to build a better life and sees her relationship with Jason as part of that plan.
Their story begins after a robbery goes wrong.
The two are then pulled into a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida.
Rockstar has described the game as a single-player experience.
What New Features Will GTA 6 Have?
Rockstar has not published a complete list of gameplay features yet.
But its trailers and official material have already revealed several changes.
A bigger world
Leonida is designed as more than a single major city.
The game includes Vice City alongside beaches, islands, rural areas, waterways and other locations.
Rockstar has released dozens of official screenshots showing different parts of the state.
Two main characters
Jason and Lucia form the centre of the story.
Their relationship also changes how the game presents its narrative, with both characters appearing together in several scenes and missions shown by Rockstar.
More detailed environments
Rockstar's latest extended look was captured entirely from in-game footage on PS5.
The footage showed crowded streets, vehicles, wildlife, interiors, beaches, night-time locations and different parts of Leonida.
More ways to explore
The trailers have shown cars, motorcycles, boats and aircraft.
The wider Leonida setting also means exploration will not be limited to Vice City's roads.
A more connected world
The game also places greater emphasis on the characters' social surroundings.
Rockstar has introduced characters including Cal Hampton, Brian Heder, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, Real Dimez and Raul Bautista as part of the world surrounding Jason and Lucia.
Some characters are connected to crime, music, nightlife or local businesses.
What About GTA Online?
Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 is a single-player experience.
It has not yet provided full official details about a GTA Online mode for the new game.
So claims about exactly how GTA 6's online component will work should not be treated as confirmed until Rockstar announces them.
Why Is GTA 6 Such A Big Deal?
The wait itself tells part of the story.
Grand Theft Auto V launched in September 2013.
It became one of the biggest-selling games ever released. Take-Two reported in 2026 that GTA V had sold in more than 230 million units worldwide. The wider Grand Theft Auto series had sold more than 470 million units.
That audience has also kept growing through GTA Online.
