The release of the teaser for Toxic has triggered a social media storm, forcing one of the film’s actresses to step away from the spotlight online.
The teaser dropped on Yash’s birthday and quickly gained traction. However, a brief scene showing Yash alongside Brazilian actress Beatriz Taufenbach, filmed in a cemetery, became the centre of controversy. Clips from the teaser were widely shared, with some viewers calling the visuals inappropriate and offensive.
As the scene circulated, Beatriz became the target of intense online moral policing and trolling. The backlash escalated further after filmmaker Geetu Mohandas publicly confirmed Beatriz’s identity, following which abusive comments and criticism reportedly surged across platforms.
The matter eventually reached the Central Board of Film Certification. A complaint was filed describing the teaser as “morally objectionable”, demanding scrutiny of the content shown in the promotional material.
Beatriz, who has been active in the acting industry since 2014, subsequently made her social media accounts private and later temporarily inactive. Sources indicate that the decision was taken to shield herself from the growing volume of hostile and toxic comments, while legal teams associated with the film address the controversy.
According to people familiar with the developments, the move is precautionary rather than permanent. The actress is said to be waiting for the situation to stabilise before resuming her online presence.
The incident has once again highlighted how promotional content can quickly spiral into controversy, especially when cultural sensitivities collide with social media outrage. For now, the focus remains on how the makers of Toxic navigate the backlash as anticipation around the film continues to build.
