India’s Got Latent is known for putting contestants in unpredictable situations. But in the latest Season 2 episode, Arunachal Pradesh influencer Chello Meme walked in, caught the panel’s attention and eventually won Rs. One lakh.
Her performance and an unexpected exchange with host Samay Raina soon became the focus of the episode.
But Chello Meme was not a new face on the internet. So, who is she, what did she do on Latent, and how did she end up winning the episode?
So, Who Is Chello Meme?
Chello Meme is the online name of Bara Atey, an influencer and social media creator from Arunachal Pradesh. She posts lifestyle, everyday-life and relatable content on Instagram, and her following grew after her appearance on India’s Got Latent.
Her journey into the spotlight began earlier. In 2021, aged 19, she shared a video about an incident at Guwahati’s ISBT, alleging that a man had repeatedly touched her inappropriately. She was travelling to New Delhi to represent Arunachal Pradesh at the National Youth Parliament after winning the state’s Youth Parliament event.
At the national event, Chello spoke about self-reliance in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi later shared a video of her speech on X.
She later built an audience through social media, including content about her love for Pepsi. After she spoke about having the drink with almost every meal, Pepsi sent her a gift hamper.
Years later, Chello appeared as a contestant on India’s Got Latent. She performed a rap about stereotypes faced by people from the Northeast before getting into an unexpected exchange with host Samay Raina.
What Happened On India's Got Latent?
Chello appeared in Episode 5 of Season 2, alongside Orry, Archana Puran Singh, Nishant Suri and Sharon Verma, with Samay Raina hosting.
She began with a rap about racism faced by people from Northeast India, including being wrongly referred to as Chinese.
But her exchange with Samay quickly became the standout moment.
Samay asked what people in Arunachal Pradesh said about him. Chello simply replied, “Nothing.” When he seemed surprised, she explained that she was just being honest.
When Samay suggested he could hold a show in Arunachal Pradesh and sell it out, Chello replied, “I don’t know if they will understand your jokes.”
Later, when Samay asked her to insult another panellist, she refused, saying, “I say only to those who deserve it.”
The exchange continued when Samay asked if she had come to roast him. Chello said she was there to “take revenge for all those people.”
How Did the Panel Respond?
The panel appeared to enjoy Chello's performance.
Orry, Archana Puran Singh, Nishant Suri and Sharon Verma each gave her ten out of ten.
Samay, meanwhile, gave her five.
That sounded like a low score, but there was a reason behind it.
On India's Got Latent, contestants predict their own scores. Chello had predicted that she would receive a nine.
Samay had apparently worked out that giving her a five, alongside four 10s, would bring the average to exactly nine.
That matched Chello's prediction and meant she won the episode.
She took home Rs. One lakh, two AI Nova+ phones and 50,000 coins on the District app.
Why Is Chello Meme Trending Now?
The reason is not simply that she won Rs. One lakh.
Her exchange with Samay gave viewers a different dynamic from the usual Latent format. The host who normally questions contestants became the person answering back to a contestant's blunt responses.
Chello's humour also came from how calmly she delivered her answers. She did not present the exchange as a planned roast. She repeatedly maintained that she was simply telling the truth.
That clip has now introduced her to a much larger audience.
And for Chello Meme, this is another chapter in a journey that has already taken her from the National Youth Parliament to Instagram and now to one of India's most talked-about comedy shows.
