If you file income tax returns in India, Form 16 is usually where it starts.
It shows your salary, tax deductions, and what you need to report.
That routine is set to change from April 2026.
Under the Income-tax Rules, 2026, Form 130 will replace Form 16, changing how salary and tax details are reported to employees.

What Is Form 130?
Form 130 is an official Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) certificate issued by employers.
It serves as proof that tax has been deducted from your salary and deposited with the government.
Like Form 16, it will be used by salaried employees while filing income tax returns.

What Will Form 130 Show?
Form 130 will include a detailed computation of income and tax, such as:
Salary break-up
Exemptions and deductions
Total taxable income
Tax payable and relief
TDS or TCS details
Net tax payable
All of this is structured into sections covering employer details, salary summary and full tax computation.

How Is It Structured?
Form 130 is divided into three parts:
Part A: Employer and employee details
Part B: Summary of salary paid and tax deducted
Part C: Detailed computation of taxable income
This structured format is designed to standardise how income and tax data is reported.
How Will It Be Issued?
Form 130 will be system-generated and linked to TDS filings.
It must be downloaded from the official TRACES portal and cannot be issued through any other format.
This means the document will depend directly on the accuracy of employer filings.
Why Is This Change Happening?
The shift is part of a broader update to India’s tax system.
The new framework focuses on standardised, system-driven reporting to reduce errors and improve compliance.

Form 130 provides a clearer and more structured breakdown of income and taxes.
