An 18-year-old Indian Air Force aspirant lost her life in a hit-and-run accident on a Jaipur expressway, just weeks before she was expected to join the force.
Anaya Sharma, a resident of Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district, was killed on the morning of 21 January when a speeding Mahindra Thar struck her from behind while she was out jogging with her sister. The incident took place on the Shanti Bagh stretch of the Jaipur expressway.
According to police, the SUV was travelling at high speed when it hit Sharma, leaving her critically injured. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead during treatment.
After the collision, the Mahindra Thar reportedly crashed into another vehicle. The driver then abandoned the SUV near Dadi ka Phatak and fled the scene, police said.
Authorities have seized the vehicle involved in the incident and registered a case. Police officials stated that the accused will be arrested soon and will face stringent legal action.
The incident has sparked renewed concern over reckless driving and hit-and-run cases on city expressways, particularly during early morning hours when pedestrians and joggers are often present.
For Sharma’s family, the loss is devastating. A routine morning jog turned fatal, cutting short the life of a young woman who was preparing to serve the nation in uniform.
