A red trolley bag left inside a train became the first clue in a murder investigation spanning Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha.
When railway staff found decomposed human remains inside the bag at Agra, police initially had little to work with. The investigation then moved backwards, from the train to Chennai and eventually to a rented house in Guduvanchery.
The victim was identified as 38-year-old Hayathun Nisha from Jagatsinghpur, Odisha. Police are now searching for a man and a woman suspected of killing her and transporting her remains by train.
It Started With A Red Suitcase
The case came to light after railway staff at Agra railway station discovered a suspicious red trolley bag inside the rear general compartment of Train No. 12621, the Tamil Nadu Express.
The bag contained decomposed and dismembered remains of a woman. The Agra Government Railway Police registered a case and began working to establish the identity of the deceased.
Investigators later identified the victim as Hayathun Nisha, a 38-year-old woman from Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district who worked for a private company in Chennai.

Investigators from the Agra Government Railway Police, with assistance from the Government Railway Police at Chennai Central and the Railway Protection Force’s Crime Intelligence Branch, examined CCTV footage from Chennai.
CCTV Gave Police The Missing Link
The crucial breakthrough came from surveillance footage.
CCTV cameras at Platform 4 of Chennai Central showed a man and a woman carrying a trolley bag resembling the one later found with Nisha’s remains. The footage showed the pair boarding the Tamil Nadu Express and subsequently getting off, leaving the luggage behind.
Investigators then followed the couple’s movements through CCTV footage from Chennai Central and Guduvanchery.
The trail eventually led them to the rented accommodation in Guduvanchery.
This was important because police were no longer looking at the suitcase as an isolated discovery. They were now investigating whether Nisha had been killed at the house before her remains were transported out of Chennai.
More Remains Found Inside The House
When investigators traced the rented property, they found it locked and alerted the local police.
A search of the premises reportedly led to the recovery of additional body parts. Police also examined a large container at the property as part of their investigation into how Nisha was allegedly killed and dismembered.
The discovery strengthened the police theory that the crime may have taken place inside the Chennai residence.
Investigators are now examining the house, CCTV recordings, railway travel records and other evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Police are looking for Manik Uddin Laskar and Bhagabati Majhi.
Manik is from Assam, while Bhagabati is from Odisha. Both had been staying at the Guduvanchery house with Nisha, according to the Odisha Police officer cited by The Times of India.
However, they have not been arrested yet.
Police suspect the couple fled after the crime and may have travelled to Odisha. Chennai Police have sought assistance from Odisha Police and launched searches at different locations in the state.
