Kangana Ranaut Calls Naseeruddin Shah ‘Fox’ After Piyush Mishra Questions His ‘Dog’ Remark

Kangana Ranaut has criticised veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah after actor Piyush Mishra questioned Shah’s earlier “dog with a bone” remark about Bollywood celebrities.

Ranaut entered the public exchange after Mishra referred to Shah’s comments while speaking during a student protest in Jharkhand.

What did Naseeruddin Shah say?

The controversy centres on comments Shah made about the silence of some Bollywood celebrities during student protests in Delhi.

Shah used the analogy of a dog with a bone in its mouth, saying that people in that position could not bark. He suggested that they would speak once the “bone” was no longer there or when it caused them harm.

The veteran actor was commenting on what he described as the reluctance of some people from the film industry to speak out.

Why did Piyush Mishra respond?

Mishra later referred to Shah’s comments while speaking to the media during a student protest in Jharkhand.

He questioned Shah about the earlier analogy and asked which other “dogs” Shah was referring to when he spoke about people who could not speak.

Mishra’s comments brought Shah’s earlier statement back into the spotlight.

What did Kangana Ranaut say?

Ranaut subsequently shared a report about Mishra’s comments on her Instagram Story and appeared to side with him in the dispute.

In her post, she said that everyone was “someone’s dog”, but added that she was proud to stand by the country whose “bread” she ate.

She then described Shah as a “lomdi”, or fox, and said she would rather be called a dog.

Ranaut also argued that, in the current context, being called a dog could be seen as a compliment because of the animal’s association with loyalty.

Ranaut also made a political allegation

In the same post, Ranaut made a separate allegation about Shah and a neighbouring country.

The statement was made by Ranaut as part of her response to Shah. The reports reviewed do not independently establish the allegation as fact.

For that reason, it should be understood as Ranaut’s claim, rather than an independently verified fact.

The public exchange so far

The sequence is straightforward: Shah first criticised what he saw as the silence of some Bollywood figures during student protests. Mishra subsequently questioned Shah’s “dog with a bone” analogy. Ranaut then publicly backed Mishra while criticising Shah.

The exchange has renewed attention on the question of whether Bollywood actors should speak publicly on political and social issues.

For now, the disagreement remains a public exchange between the actors.
