What happens when confidence meets a word nobody saw coming?
Brut and Laphroaig invited actors Kalki Koechlin, Kunal Kapoor and Nimrat Kaur to take on a playful pronunciation challenge, putting their skills with some notoriously tricky words to the test.
They were confident. They were ready. And then came Laphroaig.
Kalki Koechlin Had Heard It All
Kalki Koechlin knows what it is like to have her name pronounced in every possible way. So, when she took on a pronunciation challenge, she came prepared.
She spoke about instinct, confidence and the unexpected turns that come with taking on new challenges.
Then came Laphroaig.
Laf-frog. Lap-roy. And a few more creative attempts later, Kalki finally cracked the pronunciation.
And with that, she became a Friend of Laphroaig.
Kunal Kapoor Was Ready For Anything
Kunal Kapoor came into the challenge with confidence.
Scottish town names? He sailed through them. Islay? Easy. Reykjavik? Also easy.
But Laphroaig proved to be a different story.
The “PH” threw him off, but after a few attempts, Kunal managed to get the pronunciation right.
Another word conquered, and another Friend of Laphroaig.
Nimrat Kaur Had Her Own Way Of Doing It
For actor and food lover Nimrat Kaur, some notoriously difficult words were hardly a challenge.
Bouillabaisse? Nailed it.
Worcestershire? Got it right.
Then Laphroaig showed up.
Her first attempts included Laf-rog and Lap-roy. Then came an unexpected thought: “Like OYE in Punjabi?”
The guess was unexpected, playful and, somehow, brought her closer to the right pronunciation.
One final attempt and she had it.
Laphroaig.
Three Actors. One Very Tricky Word.
The challenge was never just about getting the pronunciation right.
There were mispronunciations, laughter and plenty of guesses along the way. But after all the banter and giggles, Kalki Koechlin, Kunal Kapoor and Nimrat Kaur finally figured out how to say Laphroaig.
And now, they’re officially Friends of Laphroaig.
