A woman with Type 1 diabetes has alleged that she was stopped from entering a PVR INOX cinema in Noida after security staff questioned the emergency kit she was carrying.

Jyotsana Rangeen shared her experience on X, saying the kit contained supplies she needs to manage dangerously low blood sugar levels. She also alleged that a manager told her that people with her condition should not come to watch movies.

Why Was She Stopped?

Rangeen said the issue began during a routine bag check.

Security staff noticed a juice box in her bag and, according to her, assumed she was carrying outside food.

She explained that the juice box and other items were part of her emergency hypoglycaemia kit.

She said staff continued to object despite her explanation.

Rangeen also alleged that her emergency supplies were confiscated and that she was told she could buy food or drinks inside the cinema if her blood sugar dropped.

She described the experience as discrimination and called for greater awareness among cinema staff about medical conditions.

What Was In Her Diabetes Kit?

Rangeen said her emergency kit contains:

  • A juice box

  • Glucose candies

  • Glucose powder

  • Other essential diabetes supplies

These supplies can be used when blood sugar levels fall dangerously low, a condition known as hypoglycaemia.

For people living with Type 1 diabetes, having quick access to glucose or other emergency supplies can be medically important.

PVR INOX Apologises

The incident drew attention online and prompted a response from PVR INOX.

The cinema chain apologised to Rangeen and said it understood how essential a Type 1 diabetes kit can be.

“We're truly sorry to hear about your experience,” PVR INOX said, adding that the incident did not reflect the experience it aims to provide.

The company later clarified that medically necessary food, beverages and diabetes kits are permitted inside its cinemas.

PVR INOX said the security staff member had initially mistaken the items for regular outside food.

The company said the items were allowed once the duty manager was informed about their medical purpose.

PVR INOX also said it would reinforce its guidelines with staff to prevent similar incidents in the future.
