In 2002, Sharma reportedly pulled out of the film Encounter just 48 hours before shooting was scheduled to begin. Reports cited by The Indian Express said she had started thinking about exploring work behind the camera after years of modelling and acting.
Importantly, Sharma did not frame her journey as simply quitting Bollywood.
In an Instagram exchange, when a follower asked whether she regretted leaving the industry, she replied that she had only "steered away" and could potentially steer back again.
