Investigators stated that after Shivanagaraju fell asleep, Madhuri contacted her partner, identified as Gopi, and asked him to come to the house. The two allegedly suffocated him with a pillow, according to police findings.

The death was initially described as natural to neighbours and relatives. However, suspicion arose after injuries were noticed during funeral preparations.

Police said a post-mortem examination confirmed death due to suffocation. Both Madhuri and Gopi were arrested soon after. Police said Madhuri confessed during questioning.
