BJP Maharashtra vice-president and former MP Sujay Vikhe-Patil has claimed that US President Donald Trump’s shifting war positions have contributed to increased alcohol consumption among some people in India.

Vikhe-Patil made the remarks while speaking about delays in the construction of the Ahilyanagar-Manmad Road in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district.

What Did Sujay Vikhe-Patil Say About Trump?

Vikhe-Patil criticised Trump over what he described as the US President’s frequently changing positions on the war and missile attacks.

“This man (Trump) says one thing at night, another in the morning, and something entirely different the next day,” he said.

He then claimed that the confusion caused by Trump’s actions was affecting some people in India.

“Due to the confusion caused by Trump’s actions, the amount of alcohol consumed by certain people has increased,” Vikhe-Patil said.

The claim was made by Vikhe-Patil, and the reports do not provide independent data linking Trump’s policies to alcohol consumption in India.

TL;DR | News At A Glance

  • BJP leader Sujay Vikhe-Patil claimed Trump’s shifting war positions have led some people in India to drink more.

  • He made the remarks while speaking about delays in the Ahilyanagar-Manmad Road project.

  • Vikhe-Patil also claimed that attacks on Iran had affected crude oil supplies and, in turn, the availability of bitumen.

Why Did He Link Trump To A Road Project?

Vikhe-Patil also claimed that a chain of global events had contributed to delays in the Ahilyanagar-Manmad Road project.

He said attacks on Iran had affected crude oil supplies, which he claimed had then affected the availability of petroleum products and bitumen.

Bitumen is a petroleum-derived material commonly used in road construction.

According to Vikhe-Patil, disruptions in supply and production had reduced bitumen availability and affected the road work.

“All of this has happened because of Donald Trump’s war policy. This is all linked. Those who understand will get it,” he said.

What About The Bitumen Shortage?

NDTV reported that Vikhe-Patil also claimed the contractor had to bring tar from Delhi because of its unavailability locally, increasing costs by two-and-a-half times.

However, the claim that Trump’s policies directly caused the local shortage, higher costs or the road delay remains Vikhe-Patil’s explanation. The reports do not independently establish that causal link.

Vikhe-Patil also acknowledged the poor condition of the road and said he understood the difficulties faced by local residents. India Today reported that he urged people not to attack contractors or workers over the stalled project.

Vikhe-Patil is the son of Maharashtra minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil.
