A complaint has been filed against the parents of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala after their two-year-old son was seen mimicking gunfire sounds at a concert in Toronto, Canada, on 9 October. Chandigarh-based advocate Navkiran Singh filed the complaint with Mansa authorities on 17 October, seeking counselling for the parents and an inquiry under the Juvenile Justice Act. Singh, general secretary of Lawyers for Human Rights International, raised concerns that encouraging such gestures could normalise violence at a young age. However, the family’s lawyer argued that the parents should not be judged based on a single video. Authorities have yet to confirm whether any action has been taken on the complaint. Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead in May 2022. In March 2024, his parents welcomed their second child, Sukhdeep Singh Sidhu, through in vitro fertilisation (IVF). The complaint has brought attention to the footage from the Toronto concert and the questions raised about the toddler’s gestures. The family’s lawyer has maintained that the parents should not be judged solely on the basis of the video.
