Smriti Mandhana just got Barbiefied! And yes it’s iconic. Mandhana entered her Barbie era on 5 March, becoming the first cricketer to receive a one-of-a-kind doll inspired by her journey. Toy maker Mattel created the doll in Mandhana’s likeness to celebrate her achievements on the field. The special edition doll is not meant for retail and was designed purely as a tribute to the Indian cricket star. But Mandhana isn’t the only trailblazer to be honoured this way. Several global athletes like Serena Williams, Stephanie Gilmore amongst others were immortalised as Barbie dolls, celebrating women who have broken barriers in their fields.
