Five members of a family were found dead at their home in Nagla Padam village, in the Rabupura area of Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday, 17 October 2026. The deceased were identified as Mahesh, 37, his wife Lalita, 35, and their three children, Sakshat, 11, Mishti, 7, and Riyansh, 3. Reports said the family had consumed tea and noodles before going to sleep the previous night. The deaths initially raised suspicions of food poisoning. However, the investigation took a different direction after police recovered a voice note recorded by Mahesh on his mobile phone on Sunday, 18 October. According to police, Mahesh allegedly held three relatives responsible for his family's plight. The relatives were identified as his elder sister Sunita, 45, younger sister Sapna, 32, and brother-in-law Shekhar, also known as Chandrashekhar, 50. Police began investigating a possible property dispute involving the family. According to preliminary police information, Mahesh was distressed after learning that the house where he lived with his mother, Chandrawati, had allegedly been transferred into the name of his elder sister, Sunita. Police said Sunita had allegedly influenced their mother to make the transfer. On Sunday, police arrested Sunita, Sapna and Shekhar in connection with the deaths. According to The New Indian Express, the arrests followed a complaint filed by Lalita's brother. Police registered a case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with abetment to suicide. Post-mortem examinations indicated signs of poisoning, but the exact substance and cause of death remained undetermined. Police sent preserved viscera samples for forensic analysis and examined CCTV footage from the area. As of 19 October 2026, forensic findings were awaited. Police were investigating the alleged property dispute and examining the evidence to establish the circumstances surrounding the five deaths.
