Actor Ranvir Shorey has responded to the backlash over his recent social media exchange, rejecting allegations of misogyny and saying he does not regret responding to trolls in the same language used against him. The controversy began after Shorey shared a light-hearted 15-second dance video featuring his Khosla Ka Ghosla 2 co-stars Anupam Kher, Boman Irani and Parveen Dabas. The video went viral and was later reshared by an X user with a sarcastic comment directed at the actor. Shorey responded with a crude remark, which sparked criticism online. Since the X account featured a woman’s photograph as its profile picture, several users accused the actor of using misogynistic language. Ranvir Shorey says he responds to trolls ‘in the language they speak’ Speaking about the backlash, Shorey said he had no intention of apologising for his response. “There is no such reply on my timeline,” he said, adding that he responds to trolls “in the language they speak in”. The actor also said he did not know the actual gender or age of the person behind the account and argued that the language used by an account mattered more than the gender shown in its profile picture. “If girls can be gutter mouthed, then they should be ready to hear the same kind of replies too,” Shorey said. ‘I have never misbehaved with anyone unless they have misbehaved with me first’ The controversy also led to social media users discussing Shorey’s personal life, with old allegations and claims about his behaviour resurfacing online. Some users linked the discussion to his past marriage to actor Konkona Sen Sharma. Shorey dismissed these reactions as coming from people who already disliked him. He maintained that he does not misbehave with anyone unless he is provoked first. He also said he was under no “moral, ethical or legal obligation” to accept abuse or hate, whether it came from men or women. According to Shorey, the controversy was driven by the reaction to the dance video he made with the Khosla Ka Ghosla 2 team. Ranvir Shorey says he is ‘done with this episode’ Despite the controversy, Shorey said he does not want to continue discussing the matter. “I am done with this episode. I would rather think about the next reel,” he said. On the work front, Shorey was recently seen in the ZEE5 thriller Everybody Loves Sohrab Handa. He will next appear in Khosla Ka Ghosla 2, the sequel to the popular comedy-drama, which is scheduled to release later this month.
