DMK MLAs were evicted from the Tamil Nadu Assembly on 8 September after protesting Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s allegations against the previous DMK government. The uproar began after DMK whip E.V. Velu demanded that Vijay’s remarks be removed from the Assembly records. Vijay had cited an Enforcement Directorate (ED) document and alleged that contractors were asked to pay 7.5% to 10% of contract values as “party funds” for works under the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department. Vijay also alleged that former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Udhayanidhi Stalin were among the beneficiaries named in the document. These remain allegations. After the Speaker rejected the demand to expunge the remarks, DMK MLAs raised slogans. Assembly marshals then removed the protesting legislators from the House.
