Air Canada plane collides with fire truck in New York

Air Canada Express flight AC8646, arriving from Montreal, collided with a fire truck at New York’s LaGuardia airport on 22 March. The aircraft, a CRJ-900 operated by Jazz Aviation, was carrying 72 passengers and 4 crew members at the time of the incident. The crash happened shortly after 11:30 pm while the plane was landing and struck the emergency vehicle at a speed of about 38 kmph as per Flight Radar 24. The fire truck was responding to a separate incident when the collision happened, leading to severe damage to the front of the aircraft. The pilot and co-pilot were killed in the accident, while over 60 passengers were treated for minor injuries. An officer and sergeant sustained serious injuries, including broken limbs. Four firefighters were critically injured as well. Following the crash, the airport was shut down until at least the next day, with multiple flights cancelled or diverted. Officials from aviation authorities launched an investigation, while advising passengers to expect continued delays and disruptions.
