A woman working at a shoe and bag repair shop in Bengaluru's Indiranagar was held at knifepoint and robbed of a gold chain worth Rs. 4.5 lakh. The incident took place in the presence of a police officer, while the accused allegedly threatened to kill the woman if anyone approached him.
According to the video of the incident, the accused, identified as Prabhuraj, entered the shop with his face covered, claiming that someone was coming to kill him.
However, moments later, he covered the employee's hands and mouth before pulling out a knife. He then allegedly glued both her hands to the desk and forcibly removed her gold chain.
As Prabhuraj attempted to escape with the chain, Jayashree managed to free herself and raised an alarm. The chain was reportedly worth nearly Rs. 4.5 lakh.
The accused was subsequently handed over to the police by onlookers and booked for robbery.
The incident comes amid a decline in chain-snatching cases in Bengaluru. According to Deccan Herald, the city reported 53% fewer chain-snatching cases in 2025 compared to the previous year.
However, gold continues to be a target for criminals, with the recent rise in gold prices making it more lucrative, according to a Times of India report.
