30-year-old trader Navjot Singh was shot at his shop in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district by two masked men on 10 October. CCTV footage showed two men arriving in a silver Alto and opening fire after Navjot tried to resist them. His father, Nishan Singh, alleged that the shooting stemmed from a family dispute over Navjot’s marriage to Kamal Kaur, a widow with two sons who worked in New Zealand. He alleged the sons opposed their mother’s marriage to Navjot, who was 10 years younger than her. Singh named seven people in his complaint, including the stepsons for conspiring the attack. The alleged motive was being investigated as police continued to search for the accused, who were absconding.
