Delhi animal rescuer Jagriti Mishra broke down after Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials demolished parts of her under-construction animal shelter on 24 October. Mishra's NGO, Street Worldz Trust, cares for more than 100 animals, including injured and paralysed dogs. She was building a larger shelter and a free veterinary hospital in Delhi. Mishra said the demolition took place without notice after she had spent around Rs. 70 lakh on the project. She also alleged that politically connected individuals had demanded a bribe and threatened her before the demolition. AAP MLA Jarnail Singh visited Mishra and denied his party's involvement. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also said Mishra had expressed regret over linking a party councillor to the allegations. On 25 October, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited Mishra along with Mundka MLA Gajendra Daral. Gupta promised Rs. 5 lakh in financial assistance, ordered an inquiry into the demolition and directed officials to help Mishra. Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal also visited the animal rescuer and pledged Rs. 15 lakh towards the animal hospital and shelter. On 26 October, the MCD suspended junior engineer Vikas Kumar Gupta and initiated disciplinary proceedings against him. The demolition has prompted political leaders to visit Mishra and announce financial assistance for the project. The circumstances surrounding the demolition and Mishra's allegations of bribery remain under investigation.
