Students from Delhi University colleges took to the streets on 23 September over safety concerns around their campuses after a minor was allegedly gang-raped in a park in South Delhi on 21 September. The protest was led by students of Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR), with students from other women’s colleges and institutions also joining in. Students said harassment and safety concerns around their campuses had continued for years. LSR had suspended physical classes and shifted them online after a police encounter with an accused in the case took place around 50 metres from the college’s back gate. The incident involved a 17-year-old girl who was allegedly gang-raped in Aastha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Mandir. The case led to police action against the accused, including an encounter near the LSR campus. During the protest, students raised slogans and spoke about safety on the streets around their campuses. Students from women’s colleges and other institutions joined the demonstration in support.
