Thai ship attacked
A Thai-flagged cargo ship, Mayuree Naree, was attacked by unknown projectiles while passing through the Strait of Hormuz on 11 March, according to the Royal Thai Navy.
The ship had left Khalifa Port in the UAE and was on its way to Kandla Port in Gujarat, when the incident occurred.
20 crew members were rescued by the Omani navy, while three sailors were still missing at the time of publishing. Rescue efforts were ongoing.
Photos released by the Thai navy showed the ship engulfed in thick black smoke, with life rafts floating nearby.
Tracking data placed the vessel off the coast of Oman, about 11 nautical miles from shore.
The bulk carrier is 178 metres long and owned by Thai shipping company Precious Shipping.
Authorities said the exact cause of the attack is still being investigated, and no group has claimed responsibility so far.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with growing concerns about security for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route.
