In her Calcutta Club speech during a debate on the motion, “Hinduism Needs Protection From Hindutva,” Mahua Moitra traces Hindutva from Chandranath Basu's 1892 coinage to Savarkar's militarised nationalism. Her point? Hinduism is spiritual and Hindutva is political. “Hindutva is there because we, as Hinduism, allow it to, not the other way around,” she says.
