External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar issued a clear call to action on the growing trade imbalance between Russia and India. He outlined a forward-looking strategy—diversification, connectivity, policy reform, and business collaboration—to build more balanced economic partnership between the two nations. He made the remarks during the 26th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC) in Moscow. His comments came following President Donald Trump’s move in August 2025 to double tariffs on Indian exports to 50%, along with an additional 25% duty tied to India’s continued purchase of Russian crude oil.
