US Vice President JD Vance appeared to misspeak while discussing the upcoming 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks at a campaign rally in Michigan on 31 August. “We’re about to celebrate the 25th year,” Vance said before correcting himself to “commemorate”. He then said Americans would celebrate the heroes of 9/11 and commemorate those who died. Vance was campaigning for Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers and also criticised Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed over his association with streamer Hasan Piker. Piker said in 2019 that “America deserved 9/11”. He later said the remark was inappropriate and explained that he was discussing US foreign policy. El-Sayed has said he does not believe the 9/11 attacks were justified.
