Schoolchildren in parts of Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan have been seen using makeshift crossings to reach their schools. Videos shared on social media showed children in Chhattisgarh’s Gariyaband district using a ladder fixed to an unfinished bridge over the Pairi River. The bridge, reportedly under construction for years, has left children using the structure to cross the river during the monsoon. Reports said the river was around 20 feet below the crossing. In Rajasthan, another video showed schoolchildren using a fallen tree trunk to cross a stream. Locals have raised the issue of connectivity and a proper crossing. The videos have brought attention to how road and bridge connectivity affects children travelling to school in rural areas.
