A moment to spit tobacco turned fatal for a man at Barh railway station after he moved close to the platform edge as a Vande Bharat Express approached. In seconds, the honking train struck him. He failed to notice the train’s arrival, suffering head injuries and being thrown back onto the platform. Railway personnel rushed the man to Barh Sadar Hospital, but he was later declared dead. Following the tragedy, Danapur division railway authorities and the RPF urged passengers to maintain a safe distance from platform edges. In 2023, over 21,000 people were killed in 24,678 railway accidents in the country, as per the National Crime Records Bureau.
