On 1 December 2025, the Centre issued a notice asking for its Sanchar Saathi app to be "pre-installed on all mobile handsets manufactured or imported for use in India," and to make sure that "its functionalities are not disabled or restricted". As per the Centre, the initiative aims to curb cyber frauds. But the notice sparked a controversy, with the Opposition asking whether it was a way to "snoop" on citizens.
