Vaikom Vijayalakshmi has won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the 2024 Malayalam film Ajayante Randam Moshanam. She received the award for the song “Angu Vaana Konilu” at the 72nd National Film Awards. The 72nd National Film Awards, which honoured films released in 2024, were announced in July 2026. Vijayalakshmi is a blind singer and musician from Kerala who has worked in Malayalam cinema for more than a decade. She began her playback singing career with Celluloid and has also sung in films including Baahubali. The National Film Award is her first in the category. It comes 14 years after her breakthrough in Malayalam cinema. In an interview with The Times of India, Vijayalakshmi spoke about living with visual impairment and her experiences of being treated differently because she is blind. She has also spoken about her musical career and personal decisions. The award recognises her playback singing for Ajayante Randam Moshanam, adding a National Film Award to her career in Indian cinema.
