Newly released U.S. Department of Justice surveillance footage shows Ghislaine Maxwell inside her cell at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center in July 2020. Maxwell, who was convicted in 2021 of child sex trafficking in connection with financier Jeffrey Epstein, was being held at the federal facility at the time. The video, recorded shortly before 2 p.m. on July 1, 2020, shows her moving around her cell. The footage was released following the publication of a large batch of documents related to Epstein. The Metropolitan Detention Center has faced longstanding criticism over conditions. Former warden Cameron Lindsay previously described it as “one of the most troubled” prisons in the United States.
