The Education Department has reportedly axed nearly all of its staff in the Special Education Department. Since last Friday, the department has begun mass layoffs amid the ongoing federal government shutdown. According to a lawsuit filed by the American Federation of Government Employees, at least 460 Education Department employees have been laid off, representing about one-fifth of the agency’s workforce. The layoffs also included nearly everyone in the Department of Education’s Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services.
