Asim Riaz and Himanshi Khurana are back in the news, nearly three years after they ended their relationship. This time, the conversation is around religion, with Himanshi speaking about the difficulties she faced during their relationship and Asim hitting back at what he says is a misleading narrative about their past.

The two met on Bigg Boss 13 in 2019 and went on to date for around four years. When they announced their breakup in December 2023, both spoke about their different religious beliefs. Now, Himanshi’s recent comments about that period have reopened the conversation.

What did Himanshi Khurana say?

During a recent conversation with Paras Chhabra, Himanshi spoke about the religious differences she experienced in her relationship.

She said her partner would talk to her about the positive aspects of his religion and that she was expected to understand and accept them. Himanshi said she ultimately did not want to make that change.

“There was nothing wrong with him; he never misbehaved with me, but it was my own choice that I did not want to do something like that,” she said.

Himanshi also spoke about how deeply the situation affected her relationship with her own faith.

“I felt like I was betraying my God,” she said, explaining why she wanted to visit Char Dham and other pilgrimage sites.

For Himanshi, she said, the fact that she had reached a point where she felt she was saying goodbye to her faith was significant.

“The fact that this question even arose was a big thing,” she added.

Her comments led to reports and social media discussions suggesting that she had been pressured to convert to Islam.

Asim Riaz denies asking her to change religion

Asim has now responded to the claims and denied that he ever asked anyone to change their religion.

“I never asked anyone to change their religion. Not once,” he said in his response.

He also objected to religion being brought into a public dispute, calling it a sensitive subject and saying that it should not be used to create hatred against him.

Asim specifically disputed the suggestion that the relationship involved a “forceful conversion”.

“I never said ‘forceful conversion’ was there. People and media set that narrative,” he wrote.

He went on to say that if the discussion was going to be about proof, he was willing to share what he described as evidence, including CCTV footage and recordings.

Asim also referred to an incident on the morning of 27 November 2023 and alleged that he had suffered violence. He did not, however, publicly establish those allegations with the evidence mentioned in his statement.

Asim says he does not want to remain silent

In his lengthy social media statement, Asim said he had generally chosen to be respectful while speaking about his personal life, including his Bigg Boss experience, spiritual journey and health.

He said he now felt the need to respond because he believed his health and personal struggles were being mocked and questioned.

Asim also accused people associated with production houses and television channels of having previously covered up issues surrounding him. He said he had maintained his dignity and expected the same in return.

His response went beyond the question of religion, with the actor also addressing comments about his career, money and his former relationship.

The couple had cited religious differences when they broke up

This is not the first time Asim and Himanshi have spoken publicly about religion in connection with their breakup.

When Himanshi announced their separation in December 2023, she said they were “sacrificing our love” because of their different religious beliefs.

Asim later confirmed that the decision was mutual and said they had chosen to part ways because of their “respective religious beliefs”. He also asked people to respect their privacy.

At the time, the couple did not publicly describe their breakup as being the result of a “forceful conversion”.

That distinction is important in the current controversy. Himanshi has spoken about the pressure and emotional conflict she personally felt around religion, while Asim has denied asking her to change her faith.

Where do Asim Riaz and Himanshi Khurana stand now?

The latest exchange has brought a relationship that ended in 2023 back into the spotlight.

Himanshi’s comments were about her own experience of dealing with religious differences during the relationship. Asim has responded by rejecting the suggestion that he ever asked her to convert and by questioning the way the story has been presented publicly.

For now, the two accounts remain different. Himanshi has described the emotional conflict she experienced, while Asim has denied asking her to change her religion.

Neither person's latest statement, on its own, independently establishes the other person's version as fact.
