What Happened?

Why Did Apple Remove Telegram?
Apple said it temporarily removed Telegram after its review found content that violated its strict rules against child sexual abuse material.
The company said the issue involved content posted by a Telegram user and not a problem with the entire platform.

Telegram Says The Issue Was Linked To One User
Telegram said Apple's action was triggered by content uploaded by a single user.
The company said it removed the content, banned the account involved and worked with Apple to bring the app back to the App Store.
Telegram also said it has strengthened its moderation systems and claimed that it has blocked hundreds of thousands of groups and channels linked to child sexual abuse material.
The company added that it had faced a similar App Store issue in 2018 and had since expanded its moderation efforts.

What Did The Indian Government Say?
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) clarified that the Indian government did not ask Apple to remove Telegram from the App Store.
Officials said the action was taken by Apple as part of its own App Store review process.
The clarification came after some users speculated that Telegram had been blocked by Indian authorities.
This confusion came amid earlier concerns around Telegram in India. In June 2026, the platform had faced temporary restrictions during the NEET-UG re-examination period after authorities raised concerns about the use of Telegram channels to circulate alleged exam-related material. However, that incident was separate from Apple's decision to temporarily remove Telegram from its App Store.

Can You Still Download Telegram?
Yes.
Telegram is available again on Apple's App Store.
Existing users were able to continue using the app during the temporary removal, while new users can download it normally after Apple restored the listing.
