Women who were formerly associated with Maoist groups in Bastar, Chhattisgarh, walked a fashion ramp in Raipur in traditional attire at a National Handloom Day event.
The women had surrendered and entered the government’s surrender-cum-rehabilitation process. The Centre and state governments have policies aimed at bringing surrendered Left Wing Extremists into mainstream society. These policies include financial assistance, vocational training and other rehabilitation support.
In March 2026, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said India had achieved the goal of freeing the country from Left Wing Extremism. The Centre had set 31 March 2026 as the target for ending Naxalism.
The Raipur fashion show brought former women Maoists into a public event focused on traditional handloom clothing.
