Delhi Police removed the parents of Ankita Bhandari during a sit-in protest at Rajghat on 4 November. They were demanding that Dushyant Kumar Gautam’s appointment as Sikkim Governor be put on hold until the CBI completes its investigation into the alleged VIP angle in their daughter’s murder case. Videos from the protest showed police personnel removing Ankita’s mother and father as they sought justice for their daughter. Police said the parents were not detained but were removed because Rajghat was not a designated protest site. Ankita, who worked as a receptionist at a resort in Rishikesh, was found dead in September 2022. An SIT investigation found that she was killed after refusing to provide “extra services” to a VIP guest. Audio and video clips later surfaced naming Gautam as the alleged VIP. He denied the accusations. The CBI was also investigating the case. Gautam’s appointment as Sikkim Governor led to protests from Ankita’s parents, who have sought a stay on the appointment until the investigation is completed. On 4 November, they staged a sit-in at Rajghat, where police removed them. The case has also drawn attention to missing persons in Uttarakhand. More than 1,200 women and girls were reported missing across the state in the first six months of 2025, according to ETV Bharat.
