Luthra brothers detained

Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, co-owners of Birch by Romeo Lane, the nightclub where a fire killed 25 people, were detained in Thailand on the morning of 11 December. Photographs emerged showing the Luthra brothers holding their passports, which were already suspended by Indian authorities. The brothers reportedly booked flights to Phuket at 1:17 am on 7 December, shortly after the fire broke out. They have been booked under charges of culpable homicide (not amounting to murder) and negligence in connection with the fire. Deportation proceedings were initiated for the brothers and they are expected to be brought back to India within 24 hours. Their lawyer said that the brothers were “co-owners” of the club, not involved in its day-to-day operations, and argued they should not be held culpable.
