A 15-year-old girl was found dead at her home in the Aloicherra area of Assam's Hailakandi district on 1 August. According to police, she had attended a family feast at a relative's house before returning home alone after an argument with her cousin. When her family returned later that night, they found her dead inside the house. The family alleged that she was raped before being murdered and claimed her body was mutilated. Police said they are awaiting the post-mortem report to confirm whether sexual assault took place. The incident triggered protests, with locals blocking National Highway 6 and disrupting traffic for several hours. Police have registered a case and detained five people, including a minor, for questioning. The investigation is ongoing.
