A CCTV video from Ketan Convent School in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, showed teacher Sandeep Chaudhary allegedly slapping a Class 7 student and pulling his hair. The incident surfaced despite the ban on corporal punishment in schools under child protection guidelines. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) states that schools must ensure students’ safety, dignity and well-being. As of publishing, the school had not issued a statement, and the student’s parents had not filed a police complaint. Local police were directed to investigate the matter. The Ministry of Education guidelines state that schools are responsible for preventing actions that harm or exploit students.
