A woman police constable in Pune, Ashwini Kekan, was suspended after she was allegedly caught driving on the wrong side of the road while in uniform. The incident came to light after a motorist confronted her, with a video of the exchange circulating online. Kekan was allegedly driving a car without a number plate when the motorist questioned her about driving on the wrong side. During the exchange, the motorist asked her, “Have you been drinking?” She replied, “No, I had alcohol.” Kekan was reportedly off-duty at the time. However, a senior police officer said constables cannot wear their uniform while on leave. An FIR was filed against Kekan over alleged rash driving, endangering public safety, traffic violations and drunk driving. She was also suspended following the incident. The case came to attention after the video of the confrontation circulated online, prompting action against the constable.
