Shalini Thakur, 38, was shot dead in Sacramento, California, on 8 September 2026 after months of reported stalking by 22-year-old Rohit. She had found an Apple AirTag under her car and told authorities about alleged harassment, including claims that Rohit waited outside her home and entered her apartment while she slept. Authorities said Shalini obtained a restraining order in May after being urged to seek court protection. Police said Rohit later violated the order. On 8 September, Rohit allegedly approached Shalini at a shopping centre near the restaurant where she worked. Officials said he chased her across the car park and shot her multiple times. Police later found Rohit in his vehicle with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead.
