A viral video, reportedly from Uttar Pradesh, showed a shopkeeper, visibly frustrated sitting inside his store as people dance outside and a DJ truck passes by as part of a reported Kanwar Yatra procession. As the vehicle moved past the shop, items on the shelves were seen shaking and falling, with the shopkeeper seemingly unable to do much about it. The video went viral, although the exact location of the shop remained unconfirmed as of publishing. The incident highlighted concerns around high volume DJ systems used during religious processions. While police and authorities have prescribed sound limits for such events, violations have repeatedly been reported. In most places along the Kanwar Yatra route, DJs have been prescribed a maximum limit of 75 decibels by the police. In silent zones, such as areas around hospitals and schools, the limit is 50 decibels. A TOI report on noise levels during the Kanwar Yatra in Ghaziabad quoted a DJ operator saying that the use of powerful sound systems can turn into a competition between DJs, with some setups going above 100 decibels.
