A passenger was detained after allegedly taking photographs of a burqa-clad woman and using artificial intelligence (AI) to generate obscene images during a journey on the Miraj–Pune Special Express.
The incident allegedly took place on 3 August in the train's general coach. According to posts shared online, another passenger noticed the act and alerted the Railway Police. With help from fellow passengers, the man was detained.
At the time of publishing, it was not known whether an FIR had been registered or what action followed.
The incident has renewed attention on the misuse of AI to create non-consensual intimate imagery. A 2025 study by the Center for the Study of Organized Hate found that sexualised AI-generated images of Muslim women received 6.7 million interactions across X, Facebook and Instagram.
