Mumbai’s Siddhivinayak Temple Trust is facing allegations of donation theft after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray claimed that around Rs. 18 crore was being stolen from the temple every year.
The Maharashtra Law and Judiciary department later sought a detailed financial report from the temple trust.
The trust said it had not written any letter to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde regarding the allegation. Trust President Sada Sarvankar said the trustees had alerted authorities after finding irregularities in donation collections.
The trust confirmed that nine employees had been arrested in connection with the alleged theft. The case comes amid discussions around donation management at religious trusts, following the earlier Ram Mandir donation theft controversy in Ayodhya.
