A video of social media influencer Sonam Yadav taking a dip in the Ganga at Haridwar was altered to change her clothing and circulated on social media. Yadav has said the video was edited and that she filed a complaint with the cyber cell. Reports said the original footage showed her wearing a salwar suit, while the altered version showed different clothing. Yadav also asked people not to share the altered video and said action would be taken against those circulating it. The incident comes as India’s 2026 IT Rules include requirements covering unlawful synthetically generated content, including content that falsely depicts a person or event. A LocalCircles survey found that one in two respondents said more than 10% of videos they watched in the previous year were later found to be fake.
